IMLS Seeks Applications for Save America’s Treasures Program

The Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) is seeking applicants for the Save America’s Treasures (SAT) 2009 grant program. These grants support the preservation and conservation of nationally significant intellectual and cultural artifacts such as collections, documents, sculpture, and art, and historic structures and sites. IMLS partners on the project with the President’s Committee on the Arts and the Humanities, the National Park Service, the National Endowment for the Arts, and the National Endowment for the Humanities.

Guidelines Announced for Bank of America/IMLS American Heritage Preservation Program

The Institute of Museum and Library Services and the Bank of America Charitable Foundation are pleased to announce the 2009 guidelines for the American Heritage Preservation Program. This new public-private partnership will fund the preservation of endangered and fragile art works, rare books, scientific specimens, and historical documents (photographs, maps, deeds, etc.) held in small and medium-sized museums, archives, and libraries.

New Project Profile: Tribal Cultural Preservation at the Heart of Three-Year Conference Project

Native American archivists, librarians, cultural directors, educators, museum staff members, and elders are creating communities to support tribal cultural preservation through a series of national conferences, institutes, and workshops. The project was funded, in part, by a three-year grant to the Western Council of State Libraries from the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) under its Laura Bush 21st Century Librarian program.

New Project Profile: Vermont Teachers Dig into the State’s Past, Raise Awareness of Historic Treasures

The Vermont Division for Historic Preservation is using a Partnership for a Nation of Learners grant to recruit pre-school through college teachers and others to help excavate a rare, mid-18th century French settlement in Addison, Vermont. Professional archeologists are overseeing the dig, along with a survey of local residents to see what they have discovered in their own backyards.
